Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you offer free tours? Why do you do it? How do you get funded?

First of all we are in love with Florence! We want to show you our wonderful city, but not the one you can find in common travel books, the one in which we live. We love meeting new people from all around the world and we think that everyone should be permitted to take a guided tour for the price they feel it was worth – even free if you don’t enjoy it. We manage to keep offering tours only thanks to your donations and at the end of the tour each one of you is free to decide the price and the value of it. Our Tour Leaders are freelance professionals so these free tours are part of their job, this is the reason why they pay regular taxes on the donations they receive.

Who we are?

We are Professional Tour Leaders and we all live in this amazing city. All our guides have a degree in different disciplines: Art History, Foreing Languages, Architecture, Sociology, Economics... We have different personalities, different routes, so a different guiding style! However there is an important thing we have in common: our passion for Florence and the desire to share it with you.

Where will you take me?

This is a hard question to answer to! We consider our tours as an artesan product and the reason why there is no list of places you will see, is that each guide has a different approach to the city, so the tours are peculiar. There is no way to know the route in advance (which can change due to the weather or to special events in the city) – take the adventure! Our wish is to show you the most authentic part of the city, away from the crowds and with the eyes of people who live it every day. A sightseeing walk through beautiful streets, amazing squares with their palaces and churches. Since we have many useful hints about what to do after the tour and some precious tips that will help you to feel like a local, we highly recommend participating at this tour on your first day here. You can book more than one of our tours, so please contact us in advance in the way that we are able to let you know if the guide for the tour you are interested for, is the same or not. Please kindly note that we do not include "Piazza del Duomo" or the "Ponte Vecchio" in our routes. More informations HERE.

Do the tours end where they start?

No, each tour is different from the others and they end in different places. Of course our Tour Leaders will help you to reach any location. Do I need to make a reservation? Yes, booking is necessary. Since we want to provide you the best experience, we need to ensure that the groups remain manageable. Reservations also allow us to advice you of changes in the organization of the tour due to weather or anything else. Our guides can admit walk-up guests at their discretion only if space is available. What if I have to leave before the end? Please, if you have particular necessities let your guide know before the beginning of the tour. Are tours guided in English? Yes, all the tours are guided in English. Our guides speak quite fast because tours are oriented towards advanced level English speakers and since some of the tours are interactive, it’s necessary to have this level of English to participate.

Is FreeTour Florence - Another Florence - available also in Spanish?

Hay un tour en espanol? SI.

How long is the tour?

Since the tours are different, the lenght may change from guide to guide or from day to day. Average lenght is about two and a half/three hours but it might take longer if our guests have many questions or it might take less if there is no intermediate break. Do you stop for any breaks? It depends on the tour, some of the guides have planned stops during it.

How to find the MEETING POINT?

HERE However the email you will receive with the booking confirmation, will provide you the descripiton of the meeting point. The tour starts on exact time, please double check your booking reservation so you will be able to be in the right place at the right time! We highly recommend you to consult Google maps and even to print the map to avoid getting lost. If you are asking information on how to reach the meeting point in your hotel, please specify the name of the square which is indicated as your meeting point. In the past it has happened that some people have been mislead by the concierge, so they have missed the tour because they have been indicated e completely different area.

What if I am late for the tour?

Please, please, please be on time. Please be on time! The tour will start on exact time and before it we have to complete the check in procedures. Contact us if your plane/train/bus is in late. We also recommend checking with your concierge or online (google maps) how much time you need to make it to the tour on time and allow some extra buffer time, because it’s really easy to get lost in Florence. I have changed my mind and cannot come to the tour. Do I have to let you know? Yes! You can cancel your booking directly through the Eventbrite link on your booking confirmation email. Otherwise please give us at least a 24-hour notice before your tour starts, because very often our tours are fully booked and other potential participants cannot book it, as we limit number of people who can attend the tour to provide you the highest quality tours.

PLEASE REMEMBER: if you have booked more than one tour and you don’t show up at the first one and do not warn us in time, all your further bookings will be automatically cancelled.

Is there a lot of walking involved?

The total distance that we cover is about 3 km (2 miles), but you should be prepared for a walking tour.

Is the tour suitable for children?

As long as they can keep up with the group, they are more than welcome. Is the tour wheelchair accessible? Yes. What if the weather is bad? Show must go on!

We are not scared of a few drops of rain, are you?

Shine or snow we are here, waiting for you. Please remember to wear appropriate clothings = comfortable walking shoes, warm clothes in the winter season and an umbrella if it rains. However, FreeTour Florence - Another Florence - may cancel or postpone the tour due to extreme weather. Please contact us or check our website for updates.

  • I went to Florenz for a day trip and joined Alice‘s tour. It was the best decision I could make! I’m a freewalking tourguide in my own city and usually not easy to impress. But Alice’s tour is definitely one of the best I’ve experienced on my travels so far. Must do!

    Amazing tour with Alice
  • Amazing Tour. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and prideful. Very informative. She even gave us local tips on gelato and restaurants, which was a fun bonus.

    Walking Tour of Florence
  • The guide, Natalia, did it with high professionalism, enthusiasm. It was very competitive and full of details explanation. Any question remain answered. It was far from typical and quick overview. We get deep into the history, for this 2.5 hours. Highly recommended!

Great overview of Florence by great guide
  • We really enjoyed this very informative tour of Florence, which took us to different attractions that we otherwise might not have seen. The guide certainly gave the perspective of a local living in the City and not just the usual touristy bits.
